Mario's House

Located in the town of Lamay in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in Cusco. In the first conversations with Mario, the word "traditional" was constantly mentioned. For this reason, the house is almost completely built in traditional mud bricks, with the exception of some of the walls, which are made of clay bricks. This helps to avoid humidity problems in the bathrooms and also to gain a few centimeters of space from the interior walls. The roof structure is made of eucalyptus logs with tile roofing.

The result is an "L" shaped house, which surrounds a cobblestone courtyard where Mario will have a flower garden to attract hummingbirds. A covered terrace extends the social area towards the courtyard. This adobe house cannot have wide windows, but it seeks to frame the best views of the valley. During the design process we had in mind that the sun hits where it is needed at the right time of day. Here in the Andes, when the frost settles, the sun determines the temperature, and it is essential to take it into account.
